Hockley Valley Wedding ~ Outdoor Shooting Tips

In Weddings by Sheldon

Recently I shoot a wedding alongside Maranda Elysse Photography at the wonderful Hockley Valley Resort in Orangeville Ontario.

This was one of the hottest days of the year and as Photographers, a good shoot could be ruined if you do not use the great location properly.  I always keep in mind not everyone likes the heat like I do.  I detest Winter and could live everyday like it’s the month of June. Sigh.

We were running from the suns gamma rays like it was firing kryptonite at our super-cameras.  Too much sun kills the look of photos and will destroy the beauty of a Bride’s dress.  Not to mention, cause everyone to sweat buckets, grossing everyone out & the constant squinting causes permanent wrinkles.  Yes after one day of squinting, the wrinkles stay forever.

Today’s mission was all about finding SHADE.  So after incorrectly guessing the location of the where the sun would be when it was time to shoot the new couple.  I thought I had it mathematically figured out. Nope. Isn’t there an app for that?  My guess was way off, so the area we mapped out for shooting had to be scrapped and we went to Plan B.  Or Plan S (shade).

We strategically, kept our Bridal party cool and out of the blazing sun and made sure the amazing golf course backdrop was used to the fullest.

Everyone was looking great and the uncomfortable heat flash didn’t ruin our photo session.

There is my quick tip for getting better photos in harsh sunlight.  Don’t say I never did anything for you.
